My brain gets wrapped up
Clouded
In a drowning sea
Where the waves crash down upon me
And I can’t think straight
I hear the annoying sound of the clock
Ticking like a sledgehammer
Beating against my head
This thought wanders this way
This thought goes another
This thought tries to trick me
Trick me into thinking I’m caged
Trapped
Can’t breathe
Little whispers of –
The world is...

Down in the narrow valley we followed a small river. The valley was littered with immense boulders that had fallen from the high mountains surrounding us on each side. It was a bit unnerving knowing that at any minute another one of these great rocks could come tumbling down upon us. Nonetheless, we pushed on through the rough terrain, boulder hopping at times, and wading through the river at...
The Forest
“No! You must not enter the forest!” The old man was yelling at Jack in a frightful tone, and Jack finally backed off. Jack walked back into town. Seeing a small café he went in and sat down. Soon a waitress walked up to him, and in a cold voice asked what he wanted. Jack looked at her for a moment then asked for some coffee. The waitress, without saying a word, turned around and walked off. Jack...

The Perception of a Bad Day
Jack’s eyes were becoming blurry as he raced down the highway on his way to nowhere in particular. Blurry with tears – tears of hatred, remorse, and betrayal. He had to get away, get away from the illusion of life. He was fleeing the false reality of happiness, love, peace, and everything else that was supposed to make life worth living – lies – tears – so many tears.
He swerved towards the...

At a loss
When the wind takes the words
And throws them to the world ~
Smashes them into reality
And let’s them rain down upon me
In the hands of God / angels sit ~ wings reaching out / and hearts wide open
Elk fork damaged stream / the once mighty river falls / to the damning sun
Where the mountain rests / there is a half full river / where optimists swim
The silly monkey / covered his eyes when he saw / the moon strike the barn
Sometimes we cause pain / to the ones we love the most / without realizing
I have lost my faith / a denouncement of brethren / but never my God
The Visitor
The wind was blowing the leaves around the backyard, and the stray kitten was chasing them like I’ve seen her chase and devour so many bugs. The sky was overcast and the clouds looked like they were full of rain ready to unleash fury onto the earth.
I stood there trying to stay warm. I smoked my cigarette wondering if the nicotine was so important I was willing to freeze for it. It wasn’t long...
Haikus
The healing water / that springs from the grand mountain / lives to speak of truth
The day will soon come / when evil hides in fear from / all the good on earth

Narrow minded souls / who ignore the suffering / must find compassion

The Denouncement of Brethren
Jack walked through the woods trying to absorb as much nature as he could. He did this every Sunday. He was a Christian man who no longer believed in Christians. He swore them off as hypocrites and had decided that he could no longer sit in a church, and worship among the fraudulent masses.
Jack had come to the conclusion that the so called Christians had clouded their minds with so much hatred...
Judgment
He ran behind the wall hoping it would take the brunt of the blast. He waited there in resignation for the explosion. He knew others were going to die, but his survival was the only thing on his mind at that moment. He braced himself, the waiting was agony, and time was torturing him as he suddenly became aware of the rough chalky texture of the wall.
He could hear whistles and people running...
Sadness
Sometimes I searched for that place
The times I felt so alone
Walking through the empty streets
Holding the tears in my hand
While blurry faces slid by
I got lost in my own soul
Lashing out at reflections
Throwing my heart in the trash
Deserving of the gutter
Waiting for a sign of hope

Ginko - 10/24/2009
These are the haiku’s Zachary and I wrote Saturday morning, 10/24/09 on our “ginko” or haiku walk through the woods. We started our hike at 7am right before the sun was about to come up, and we wandered around for almost 2 hours.
Zachary’s haiku’s are obviously “free-form” meaning not the traditional 5-7-5, which is understandable since he is only 7 years old. All I did was put Zack’s haiku’s...

There’s a small river flowing
To a mysterious pool
Where the children will gather
And restore peace to the world
They will emerge as monarchs
And travel to the corners
Destroying all that is dire
Lifting up all that is good
Planting little seeds of faith
And holding truth to judgment
