Ginko - 10/24/2009

These are the haiku’s Zachary and I wrote Saturday morning, 10/24/09 on our “ginko” or haiku walk through the woods. We started our hike at 7am right before the sun was about to come up, and we wandered around for almost 2 hours.Zachary’s haiku’s are obviously “free-form” meaning not the traditional 5-7-5, which is understandable since he is only 7 years old. All I did was put Zack’s haiku’s into an order, other than that he came up with the thoughts, feeling, ideas, and words on his own.
Zack’s Haiku’s:
Orange, red, and yellow / flowers / makes me feel happy
I see a tree / bark, branches, and horse apples / tree cut down
A snail shell / brownish yellow / nothing in it
Green caterpillar / on the ground with / leaves and acorns
Tree looks like a shell / that you can listen through / brown and dead
Tree cut down / in the shape of a rainbow / branches on the ground
The sun / a tiny spot / yellow and great
Water / moving fast over rocks / greenish brown
My Haiku’s:
The sun still hidden / a dark blue sky hangs above / not a cloud in sight
An old fallen tree / left to decay in the ground / a feast for the bugs
Vines tangled in knots / hanging closely over head / from the hidden tree
Beautiful worn path / covered with leaves and branches / leading to a void
Distant bird screaming / its voice echoes through the woods / upsetting the peace
A wooden alter / tired and worn to nothing / covered in green moss
The new sun rising / gentle rays come through the leaves / searching for my face
A patch of green grass / among the remnants of death / determined to live
The old wooden bridge / over a dried up river / thirsty for the rain
Warm sun on my face / billions of rays breaking through / to lift my spirit
